Candy

I feel that in my last post I did not emphasize enough how colourful Prague actually is - so here I'm trying to make up for that!

And here some actual candy, sold at the Easter market on the Old Town Square! And below are some decorations, as well as an old church. The yellow chickens (if that's what they are) are quite cute, but I was surprised to see these as actual decorations ... I'm a huge fan of the ribbons in the trees though!

Prague in black and white

There were advertising columns in Prague just about everywhere and I though they give the city a lovely, old-fashioned atmosphere! Although the architecture might have had something to do with that as well ...

Charles Bridge, probably the most famous tourist attraction of the city. I like that it looks almost empty in this shot with just a few tiny heads visible here and there, despite being full of tourists all the time! But this is for good reason - the bridge itself as well as the view over the city and towards the castle is beautiful from the bridge! Might post pictures of the view soon.

Unknown street in Prague, with the beautifully detailed lampposts and the architecture that makes you feel as if just you jumped back a century.

Red beans

Loving the spotted red beans - looks very fiery! And why just have a pile of beans or potatoes if you could also decorate them with cauliflower, tomatoes, lemons or chilies?

Green

From a recent trip to the park. There weren't quite as many flowers as expected, so  I rediscovered the beauty of the colour green!

Three doors

I often find that doors are some of the most interesting things to take pictures of - at least if they're as interesting as these ones, which I found in Istanbul! The one in the middle is definitely a favourite - it took me quite a while to notice the face, actually! The last door war far too small to serve as a normal door, it really looked out of place ...

Fruity!

These are the kind of pictures that inspired the name of this blog (along with the fact that I like colourful pictures)! Apparently the grapes sold really well that day ...

Along with the beautiful colours of the pears - just a hint of pink on the yellow in some of them, with the abundance of pink pomegranates in the background - I absolutely adore the "font" of the prices! You can really see that they make an effort to present their produce nicely. The average weekly market in my part of the city on a Saturday, along with the more fancy bazaars in the city centre, were definitely some of my favourite places to go while I was in Istanbul!

Soft and sunny

Light blue and a brownish orange - I'm absolutely loving this combination at the moment! It reminds me of summer! The pictures were taken in Florence, Italy - and along with the green hills of the surrounding landscape of Tuscany, they are definitely the dominant colours there.

The above is the Palazzo Vecchio, with a replica of Michelangelo's David (at least I'm assuming they wouldn't let the original stand around unguarded ...)

Bosporus Light

One of the best things about Istanbul is definitely the light, it's very soft and makes everything look very dreamy! This is most obvious on the shore of the Bosporus, with its sparkling water and dust-shaded Asia (or Europe) on the other side.

But even Istiklal Caddesi, the "main street" of Istanbul, looks almost as if taken from a fairytale!

Flowers

The above is a picture of tulips in front of a stand selling flowers in Amsterdam - was really tempted to buy some! But what I'd really love to have:

This is the front of a bike (just in case it's not recognizable...) - I don't know if you can still use that bike easily, but these are the most beautiful fake flowers I've ever seen!

A splash of colour ... and then an explosion.

Signs of a night out on Taksim, the centre of Istanbul's nightlife. Although it's actually just litter, this picture made me notice how nice and colourful crisp bags are, especially against the grey background ... the second picture is admittedly a little different:

Reflections

Contrary to the name of the blog, I feel very much like black-and-white pictures lately: The first is the (distorted) image of a tree, seen in a lake. A lake with lots of ducks, to be precise; hence the motion that distorts the image. Below is the image of several bikes mirrored in one of Utrecht's many canals. Without ducks.

Brick walls and little hearts

I really love the colour combination in the first picture, and especially the different shades of red, brown and orange of the walls. And then, I suddenly thought that dried brown flowers would make a good motive for a picture:

These windows I saw on the side of a church. I'm ashamed to say that I never noticed them before despite having walked that way quite often before! Take a camera and you'll notice so much more:

Just thought this picture fit well today as it's Valentine's Day after all!

Bikes

I'm loving all the colourful bikes here - wish I had the red one! They really add some much-needed colour in February!

Red, black and white - classic combination, isn't it?

Little golden details

These pictures were taken in Utrecht (the Netherlands). Often, I find, it's a little detail like the ones above that make things stand out!

Is it strange ...

... that some of my favourite pictures of all those taken in Istanbul are photos of dead fish?

What do you need in January?

With the weather being just as grey and cold as you would expect at this time of the year, I entertained myself by taking these colourful pictures as some sort of therapy. Maybe actually eating all the candy and painting some pictures would be even more beneficial?

Funny face in a forest

It is probably not meant to be face, and even less an entertainment to passers-by, but does it not look like an astonished face? I wonder what it's looking at ...

Traces of spring are still rare at the moment (looking for those in January was very optimistic, I agree), but there were some green bits and pieces, livening up the overall brown impression of the forest:
